Ummm...that looks like reverse-engineering and modified game execution to me. It may only be for visual purposes on a local machine, but again, my point is they're allowing GW to be launched via a third-party tool whose sole purpose is to modify game content. And the company position of allowing this to happen is the starting point of the slippery slope.

Until we know what is the cause, theres no direct correlation that texture modding is the cause or modding is even the cause of this.
As such, your slippery slope is fallacious.
Completely blaming Anet for anything and everything their user base instead of directing it at those malicious/manipulative/exploiting individuals is irresponsible.
All the data in the .dat stays the same. The .exe is not modified at all. The only thing being modified is what the user sees. Its the equivalent to me sending the video data to a black and white TV and viewing it through that.
Hell. I could DRAW on top of my LCD screen and have the same effect.

There is no "No miniatures in Pre-Searing" protocol in Guild Wars. I have a Kuunavang in Pre-Searing myself.
Could you explain why this is a "glitch?"

Because Kuunavang is part of the Birthday series, Gaile... Mallyx is not. Here:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Miniature
Mallyx is ONLY obtained by opening Coffers of Whispers, whic are only obtained in the Domain of Anguish which is why that seller in the picture is proudly proclaiming he's selling the only one in Pre-searing.

Kuunie was a code. Asura was a code. Are you saying there is a code for Mallyx? Thought he only came out of a coffer. Also this is about a new hack that allows a working guild hall button to be added to the ui that allows travel to gh from pre.

I'm not disagreeing with you and i do see how TexMod works. It's the simple fact that GW can be launched with TexMod and the presentation of the content can be altered (i realise the exe and .dat are not altered by TexMod, apologies for the lack of clarity), be it in temporary memory outside the game or not that bothers me. If it can be done with textures then *perhaps* it can be done to run scripts to alter game behaviour be it injection or blockage.
Isn't that how some unlimited energy / health / lives hacks work for other games? The game data isn't altered, the exe isn't altered, but the game behaviour is modified by an external application intercepting calls within the code. In this case they may have discovered a disabled UI component in GW.dat that when reactivated makes a call to the existing GH travel code - inserting the UI item back into the game allows pre's to interact with post's and smuggle items back in.
I really don't know and am purely speculating. Put it down to an overactive imagination and creating a storm in a teacup...i'm just anal-retentive about the whole "third-party" thing
Buggers me what they can do about it...

Because unlike Kuunavang and other minis; mallyx is not a birthday miniature. To my recollection, you can only get Mallyx from a coffer of whispers in the DoA. So by logical extension, to get Mallyx to pre, you must have gotten him in post on another character and then transferred by some means to pre.

As was said in the dupe thread:

Time to split up. Daphne, uhh, I mean Gaile, you go with Velma. Scooby and Shaggy, you're with me.

Kuunavang is totally possible in presearing, but countless minipers are definitelly not: Greased lightning, Ghostly hero, MALLYX, because there is no legit way to spawn them in presearing, because they are not given at b-day, and they are no obtainable by /bonus.
Unless there is dev running around spawning those minis in pre, there is no other explanation that someone has mallyx than that there is exploit that allows smuggling postsearing things to presearing. AGAIN.

MiniPets come in 3 categories.
1. Birthday Gifts (Bone Dragon, Djinn, etc)
2. Keycode access (Asura, Kuunie,etc)
3. Chest rewards (Ghostly Hero, Mallyx)
Categories 1 and 2 are legit pets to find in pre. Perma-Pre characters can have a birthday while in Pre and Keycode pets can be created by the Pre characters.
Category 3 is off limits to pre until you find a legit Pre character that can win Halls or open a coffer of whispers.

i dont beleive for a second its a hack.

maybe i didnt make it clear, i meant that they had been camped there ever since the first glitch, with a 1 way back to pre via the 'leave guild hall' button

I don't think it's been proven that this guy used a hack or an exploit. It may be as simple as what someone mentioned above. Maybe he's been camped out in his GH for the last year. Hey, people do the craziest things.
That said, nothing is unhackable. If he did hack the client we should be looking at another perma-ban.

That's an interesting theory. I would imagine it's entirely possible, but I've inquired if the designers can give this some thought, and I am sure they will.
(And thank you, everyone, for your quick and informative responses to my earlier question. I feel rather silly for asking, but boy, I get it now. )

Just for info: there is no point in 'hacking' .DAT file. That is just their virtual file-system warped into one file. Unless the actions are scripted and scripts are loaded from there that has little point.

That makes little sense however... Why bring his character out of the guild hall JUST before GW:EN comes out? Why try and sell Mallyx in Pre-Searing where he will never get anything close to it's real value and months after it had its peak value? I mean if all he had is a one way ticket, he sure chose a really bad time to use it.

^^ EDIT> Karlos beat me to it
What I don't get is why would someone take a mini-Mallyx to Pre to sale anyway? Most people in Pre wouldn't have enough gold yet to buy it. You're kind of limiting your market to a very, very small group.

Did you see the part about this being a new hack that puts a working guild hall button on your ui so you can travel to gh from pre? There are supposedly tomes and all sorts of stuff flowing into pre now.
